The Worst Feeling Ever – Don’t Let it Happen to You

WARNING: The video I’m linking in this entry is extremely difficult to watch.  If you are a responsible parent you may feel anything from terrible sadness to extreme outrage. But it’s also an important reminder of what can and does happen every day in the world we live in.

One of the biggest struggles in the security and CCTV business is convincing people that they need to act BEFORE it is too late.  We all feel that it won’t happen to us. That everything will be fine.  Camera systems are too expensive, right?  It’s too embarrassing to let the nanny or caregiver know that she’s being watched by surveillance cameras, right?  It’s too much of a violation of their privacy to do such a thing, right?  It’s just too awkward to bring up, right?

What you’re about to see should make up your mind beyond all doubt that having cameras on ANYONE who is watching and caring for your loved ones (children, elderly or even pets) is not only the right thing to do, but absolutely necessary.  Again, I will warn you, this video is very hard to watch, but you need to see it if you have any loved ones being taken care of by someone that you’re “sure” is just fine.

Could there be a worse feeling in the world as a parent to know something like this happened to your child and there was something you could have done to prevent it or stop it from happening ever again?  The immediate thought is that the couple in this story was lucky to have caught it before something even more serious happened. But the truth is, it wasn’t luck at all.  They were responsible parents that took action when they had a feeling something was happening.  They knew they couldn’t risk not knowing any longer, and they were right.  But one could argue that none if it would have happened had they gotten a camera system from the beginning and let that caregiver know that she was being watched.

If they hadn’t gotten a camera system when they did, how much longer do you think it would have taken for them to find out what was going on?  Weeks? Months? And what would it have taken beyond a black eye to alert them to what was really happening?  Think about unknowingly leaving your child with a “caregiver” like that for months on end thinking everything is OK.

The bottom line is, trust is fine, but you need to verify what is really going on.  Any person caring for your loved ones should completely understand that.  If they don’t, it’s time to find a new caregiver.
